The vital first 1 000 days

You may already know that researchers have identified the first 1 000 days of a child’s life as a critical time that sets a person’s brain development and life- long health. It’s a time of enormous potential, but also of enormous vulnerability.

The most important thing is correct nutrition. The lack of good nutrition impacts on a child’s entire life. Malnutrition’s responsible for almost half of all deaths of children under the age of five. For those children who survive malnutrition, their bodies and brains will be stunted for life, and the damage caused can be irreversible.

And that’s why food gardens are particularly important, together with educating women on the basics of good nutrition.

Thank you for helping us to impart this life- changing health, and potential-saving knowledge, and to teach the skills that will save future generations.
