‘Growing your own food is like printing your own money.’ (Ron Finley)

This statement is at the very heart of our Care for the Planet programme. It’s also at the very heart of improving the lives of people in impoverished communities.

Not only does each of our POP centres have its own garden to provide healthy meals for the children who go there after school each day, but individual gardens are also being encouraged.

Mikal Lambert and his team are growing the gardening programme by doing walkabouts in villages and encouraging people to start their own food gardens.

For families whose nutrition is low, the benefits are quickly seen. And any surplus can be exchanged with or sold to neighbours.

There’s truth in what Ron Finley says.
